The Whale and the Snail

Olivia has had a 'whale of a time' this weekend with the whale visiting her from our friends in Palmy. She has clearly been bouncing and singing and celebrating the amazing weather! P.S even the dog seems to have enjoyed the visitor!

Meet the Agents of Change in Room 22

In our class, Mrs Rivett has 'laid down the gauntlet' - in other words, she has issued us with a challenge. She told us to be 'agents of change', kids who decide to change something in their school/community/world through their personal choices and actions.

Our challenge is meant to remain a mystery to everyone else - only our actions might 'give it away'. We have decided what to change - or TRY to change - in our school, and now we are undercover, models and agents of change, trying to bring a positive change to our world!

Keep an eye out and you may spot what we are up to...

A Cool Visit from the Police by Alec

Yesterday two police officers came into point view school. they taught us how to lift finger prints and all about how to identify shoe prints. we learnt a lot of things most of the things we saw were new things to us things that we had never seen before yesterday. we had a really good time.

SOCO visit

Today we had a visit from SOCO - the scene of crime officer - called Neil. He came in to talk to us all about how the police deal with a crime scene like the one we found in our classroom. Even though ours was a 'staged' crime scene, Neil talked about the fact that there was lots of evidence to look at.

He showed us a board with fingerprint samples on it as well as shoeprints and some ideas about what DNA is. We looked at the Coke can that the victim left at our crime scene and Neil explained how DNA would be extracted from the can. He also showed us how he dusts for fingerprints and then he used one of our students to take some fingerprints off. We pretended that Dylan had climbed in the window and was the bad guy while Dylan planted his fingers on the side of the window. It was great fun to watch how quickly Neil was able to get a copy of the fingerprints (which he gave to Dylan!) and how the fingerprints could be identified.

Tomorrow we have to interview our 3 prime suspects for our class crime scene. We have already been SOCO officers and now it's time to deduce!

A Mystery!

A crime scene...

A mystery...

Some clues...

We are detectives and we are learning to deduce! Using all of our skills as info-tectives, we are challenged to find all that we can to solve the mystery: whose outline is on our floor?!

Who ARE you...?

Welcome to the Room 22 blog for 2013!

This term we are kicking off with learning about learning - who are we as learners? What is our learning style? What do we enjoy learning about and why?

We are also going to be solving several mysteries...a series of clues will lead us to the answers and we will have to work together as a real team to be able to solve the mysteries.

Watch this space as we kick off the year and please leave us comments and questions!
